Continued tracks from plate 5 | Sitting Bull on brindle buckskin mare holding war shield

Ethnographic Notes

Sitting Bull overcomes two Pawnee enemies during the attack on a Pawnee village shown on Plate 3. Holding the same Wiciska Warrior Society lance as on p. #14, he kills a first enemy by crashing into and trampling his horse; then continues, to count coup on a second Pawnee. His bay mare is painted protectively like the mount shown on Plate 2 but this is a different animal, lacking the white stockings.
