Woman carrying parfleche cylinder

Ethnographic Notes

Page 21: Woman carrying parfleche cylinder (see alternative view for rotated version)

The woman wearing a blue and yellow dress, walking and carrying a cylindrical parfleche, is copied from Walter Bone Shirt Ledger - UC San Diego Library , plate 28, but using a different color scheme. The written note on the back of the drawing says “on a long march”, but Michel Cowdrey points out (p. 117) that the horse and decorated bag holding valuable gift items atop the saddle were part of the giveaways that accompanied the Sun Dance. The rolled up backrest that they woman carries is also part of the giveaway goods.
