Pipe Carrier, Lance, and Whip

Ethnographic Notes

In this and Plate 62 are depicted the two Pipe Carriers, four lances, and one of the two whips of the Tokala or Kit Fox Society. The whip handle is of wood, with one serrated edge, here painted black, but this varied. Compare another example in Plate 54. The tanned skin of a kit of the red fox species (NOT a “kit fox”) was attached as a pendant. Kit foxes have black-tipped tails.
