Left Side: The 1881 Cheyenne-Arapaho census allows us to perceive here a relationship that would otherwise be obscured. Bear Woman, the indicated tipi owner, hence the mother of the nearly-invisible girl seen here, was married to the prominent warrior Feathered Wolf. Their daughter, who was named Mot-sin-l-!J!J!_-elt, or Black-painted Woman, is shown in a second tryst on Page 67.
