Black Road Hunting a Buck Antelope

In a winter hunting scene, Black Road depicts himself beside a buck antelope (tatoka, “big horns”---Buechel, 1970: 484) he has just shot. Gunpowder smoke is still rising from the muzzle of his Spencer carbine. Immediately on approaching the prey, the hunter has seated himself on the ground, and raised his right hand to thank the victim for sacrificing its life to benefit Black Road's family. It is very likely that he would have been singing.
