A bighorn ram, in Lakota, hecinskayapi (Buechel, 1970: 170). As in Plate 31, the unusual, “full frontal” stare may be intended to indicate a visionary experience, when Black Road felt that psychic communion had occurred, with a transfer of sacred knowledge. Plate 21 is similar.
