HUNTING SCENE: Man on Blue Horse Lances Elk; Blank Page

Ethnographic Notes

Right: Blank Left: A hunter in a black shirt rides a blue horse, holding a lance with a single feather on the shaft end. He attacks a male elk. The man is in the dominant right-hand side of the page holding the horse reins and lance with his right hand, and his empty left arm is extended. The man’s legs are outlined, and a black shirt, but no other details are depicted. The blue horse stands behind the elk. The lance is tipped by a straight, oversized point, perhaps a bayonet or knife blade, with one monochrome white feather on the butt end. The male elk has legs and mane of a darker color; two-pronged, wide antlers, and distinctive cloven hooves. In the drawing, the elk is larger than the horse, perhaps foregrounded. No wound is yet apparent. Media: Pencil outlines with black ink and blue crayon fill
